“The Ernst Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards have entered their 14th year, with entries now invited for the 2011 contest.
The awards are aimed at recognising and celebrating entrepreneurs, as well as creating a network of like-minded peers. Previous entrepreneurs of the year include Aidan Heavy of Tullow Oil, Liam Casey of PCH International and Brian Conlon of First Derivatives. Launching the 2011 competition, Ernst Young partner Frank O’Keeffe said entrepreneurs stood out by having an “ability to overcome fear and to spot opportunity in adversity”. “

“A firm that has been integral to major Irish technology mergers and acquisitions, including Orbiscom and Hostelworld, has warned that tech firms and their backers need to realise it’s a long road for Irish technology companies to achieve their value and there are no short cuts.
Maples and Calder, an international full-service firm operating in eight financial centres worldwide, entered the Irish market three years ago to focus on finance, investment funds, litigation and corporate and now employs 120 people in Dublin out of a global headcount of 700.”

“One in 10 small firms plan to recruit new staff in the first three months of the year according to the Small Firms Association (SFA).
The SFA said another 64 per cent of companies hope to hold current staffing levels this year“
